While working in a  safe, effective manner, keeping quality in mind at all times, working in a cooperative team environment to set up and operate the flexographic printing press to print high quality designs and lettering on paper used in packaging products. Troubleshoots problems associated with printing press and performs minor maintenance and repair. Ensures safety of all personnel and attempts to achieve the highest quality possible for all finished goods. Performs all other duties or tasks as required by supervision.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1.  Set up:
  1.  Prepare all material needed for change over (correct paper, printing sleeves, ink, mandrills and anilox).
  2. Set up next job before the current job is complete.
  3. Assist lead operator in checks of paper grades and width.
  4. Removes all tooling from press and store in proper area (ink, print sleeves and mandrills).
  1.  Preparing rolls:
  1. Examine rolls for damage.
  2. Prepare rolls for splicing for continues operation.
  3. Ensure proper roll alignment for high-speed slicer.
  4. Ensure that proper clearance is available for chucking the new roll.
  5. Ensure all paperwork is attached for proper identification.
  6. Place core plug in all printed rolls.
  1. Operating Procedures:
  1. Guides press helper while assisting the Lead Operator in running the press.
  2. Compares samples from end of each roll produced with OK’d sample for color, register, sharpness, position and ink adhesion and hand on hook.
  3. Performs x-rite readings on all web samples and make proper adjustments to the ink if needed.
  1. Anilox cleaner:
  1. Must be able to clean rolls as needed.
  2. Load data into machine to ensure proper cleaning of rolls.
  1. Operating:
  1. Directs operator and helper when press is down to ensure press is up and running in a timely manner.
  2. Compares samples from end of each roll produced with OK’d sample of color, register, sharpness, position and ink adhesion and retain signed sample.
  3. Stops presses if quality is not there.
  4. Ensure anilox rolls are being cleaned on an as needed basis.
  5. Ensure that rolls footages are being properly recorded.
  6. Ensure all roll tags are are placed on finished rolls and core plugs are in place.
  7. Maintain all log books on how press ran during shift.
  8. Make sure all inks are in proper color and viscosity while maintaining proper PH levels.
  9. Check web guide frequently while roll is running.
  10. Ensure that press is properly lubricated.
  1. Safety and housekeeping:
  1. Removes all waste and unessential materials from under and around machine area.
  2. Maintains a clean press.
  3. Fills out all daily paperwork (daily cleaning logs, roll tracking sheets, etc.).
  4. Removes all inks and olis off floor and surrounding areas.
  5. Ensures all guarding and limit switches are working properly daily.
  6. Uses personal safety equipment (PPE) properly (earplugs, safety glasses, hair nets).
  7. Knowledge of Lock Out Tag Out procedures.
  8. Observes all Safety Rules.
  1. Completion of required paperwork and tasks:
  1. Tiling each roll and identifying with date/shift/roll number/time/operator.
  2. Performing x-rite check on each roll.
  3. Completing “Printer Roll Log”.
  4. Completing “Cleaning Checklist”.
  5. Production & Scrap Reporting.
  1. Additional responsibilities:
  1. To ensure that no unsafe practices or carelessness is being demonstrated by crew members.
  2. Motivate fellow employees.
  3. Is waste conscious of efforts and materials at all times.
  4. Ensures that fellow co-workers are producing a quality product.
  5. Performs all other duties or tasks as required by supervision.
  6. Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  1. Must be able to perform all functions of running the press.
  2. Must have a High School Diploma or GED. Technical Trade School experience preferable.
  3. Must be a team player with a “can do” attitude.
  4. Should possess basic mechanical skills.
  5. Capable of working in hot environment and in areas where inks and lubricants are used.
  6. Must be capable of standing for long periods of time.
  7. Must be able to frequently lift and carry 25 lbs. and occasionally up to 50 lbs.
  8. Must have good troubleshooting and problem solving abilities.
  9. Must have good communication skills.
  10. Must have basic computer and math skills.
  11. Must be able to read basic English.
  12. Due to fluctuating production levels employees may be asked to work beyond normally scheduled work hours or less than normally scheduled work hours. Employees may be required to work weekends or partial weekends on a scheduled basis.  You may also be called in during non-scheduled hours.
  13. Regularly required to stand, sit, move about facility, climb stairs, bend, twist, kneel, crouch or crawl, use hands and fingers to touch, handle, or feel objects, tools and controls, grasp, push, pull, reach with hands and arms, lift above shoulder level. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

While performing the duties of this job the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee occasionally is exposed to fumes or other airborne particles and vibration.

 

Noise levels in the work environment is usually in the range of 85 decibels.

 

Employee will be subject to mandatory testing for drugs and/or alcohol on a random, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, return-to-duty, and follow-up basis.
