Job Title:

Cell Lead   

 

Position Summary:

The Cell Lead is responsible for directing, instructing and guiding 3 – 4 people per cell.  This position will oversee multiple production lines, and is responsible to ensure downtime is reduced to a minimum by preparing raw materials, assisting operators with preparing boxes, restocking line supplies, feeding sheet, changing tape rolls, making labels & certifying that all label information is correct, and finished goods transporting where necessary. They will also perform functional quality requirements such as vertical deflection, pull tests, snap heights, wall thickness etc. In addition, they will be responsible for the daily line inspection for their designated cells. This role is responsible for ensuring production assembly cell is actively engaged to meet daily customer demand and production schedule.

Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities:

  • This includes but is not limited to the following: wearing of personal protective equipment (i.e., Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, hearing protection, and Hair Net), following lock-out tag-out procedures when applicable, and reporting any and all potential dangers to the Shift Leader and Technician. Must be trained on the use of a battery operated Walkie for the use of raw material movement.
  • Must understand and follow all procedures outlined in the Precision Packaging Quality manual. Must be alert to all possible quality problems and communicate these with the Shift Leader and Technician.
  • Keep all raw materials prepared well in advance so that roll changes are completed with minimal down time. Assist operators with feeding sheet through process, changing tape rolls where applicable, prepare boxes, labels, bags, etc. Run lines during breaks, and fill in when needed due to unscheduled absences. Facilitates effective training for the work cell and new operators.
  • Must communicate daily with the Lead Operators, and Supervisors from previous and following shifts. This would include the passing on of pertinent information on causes of down time and corrections made to process during the shift. Work closely with support staff, such as technicians, Production Supervisors and Material/Warehouse to resolve issues.
  • Must maintain a neat and orderly workstation throughout the shift. In addition, should leave the workstation in excellent condition for the operator on the following shift. (see below “shift change responsibilities) At the completion of each job, and prior to the next set up, the machine must be cleaned out completely. This includes all parts, which may have fallen into the machine during the run, grinder prep and change over, excessive grease in former & trim and all machine surroundings.
  • At the end of the shift  each operator is required to do the following to ensure a smooth transition:
    • Make sure that entire area is swept and clean
    • Provide necessary quality and production paperwork forms for the next Operator.
    • Accurately complete all paperwork
    • Ensure an adequate number of boxes are prepared to help the next operator at the start of their shift.
    • Light to moderate physical effort is required.  Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.  Regularly required to stand, reach, bend and move about the facility.
