Staff Accountant  


Position Summary:

The Staff Accountant provides management with financial information by researching and analyzing accounts, performing day to day accounting transactions such as journal entries for the corporate entities and operating sites, performing monthly account reconciliations, and assisting with monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidations of financial statements from the field sites.  The incumbent for this role will assist as needed with internal audit and tax requests, compliance and controls associated with SOX requirements, as well as develop and deliver ad hoc reporting.  This role will report to the Manager of Accounting.  


Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the monthly intercompany reconciliation process for the Waddington legal entities
  • Lead monthly close procedures including account analysis, journal entries and account reconciliations for certain legal entities, including intercompany and Corporate allocations with domestic and foreign subsidiaries
  • Analyze financial results including comparisons to budgets/prior periods, investigate variances and recommend corrective actions
  • Provide accounting support and answer questions for Waddington operations and finance teams
  • Prepare ad hoc financial analyses
  • Use initiative to drive process improvements, assist in updating and implementing policy and procedures for all subsidiaries
  • Perform monthly reviews of subsidiary balance sheet account reconciliations and provide recommendations for improvements
  • Answer accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data
  • Assist with quarterly and year-end financial statement audit and annual compliance audits
  • Assist with company-wide system integration
  • Assist with special projects and perform any other duties assigned


Candidate Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in public or corporate accounting.
  • Good working knowledge of GAAP required.
  • Minimum of intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) required.
  • CPA a plus.
  • Manufacturing experience a plus.
  • Experience with IFS ERP system a plus.
  • HFM experience a plus.
  • Technical Knowledge:  Strong understanding of corporate accounting and GAAP:
  • Professional Presentation Skills – ability to use PowerPoint to develop fact based presentations.
  • Strong Analytical Skills – Intermediate proficiency with Excel.
  • Judgement and Decision Making:  Ability to evaluate situations and reach logical conclusions.
  • Problem Solving:  Propose ideas, find new and better ways of doing things.  Proactive in analyzing issues and solving problems.
  • Time Management and Prioritization:  Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines with efficiency and accuracy.
  • Planning and Organization:  good time management, organizational skills, and detail oriented.
  • Interpersonal skills:  Ability to work independently and on a team, displaying diplomacy in day-to-day interactions and working effectively with internal and external partners to Newell Brands and all its divisions.  Displays a positive, proactive work ethic and approach.
  • Communication:  Strong ability both verbal and written.
