Print Machine Operator
Position Summary:
The Print operator has the responsibility of maintaining and correcting printing and processes on the off-set printers, and lids printers. In addition, they need to ensure all packers assigned to work on your printer are doing their jobs safely and being productive to a satisfactory level. This position reports directly to the Print Lead Operator, and the Supervisor.
Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities:
- Must be able to identify print plate issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Must be able to handle ink, blankets, and plates correctly to prevent damage.
- Must be able to do size changes for products on all print machines in the allocated time by print management.
- Must be able to do color changes/job changes for products on all print machines in the allocated time by print management.
- Must be able to help provide train new print operators and packers
- Must be able to sustain and monitor quality at all times
- Must be able to follow the print schedule.
- Assists mechanic when needed.
- Make major and minor adjustments to print machines to sustain correct efficiency and quality.
- Place stacked product in carton, seals carton, and stacks carton on pallet.
- Load and unload product in print machines.
- Ability to use a pallet jack to move up to full pallet of product to the staging areas.
- Work with the Lead operator to organize print production information so that accurate downtime, waste, and print output can be entered into the daily production report by the Lead Operator.
- Understands how installed print machines function to the system level. Example, color heads, elevators, feed system, mandrels, re-stackers (compressors), UV systems, and flamer treatment.
- Understand how the print process works and identify printing issues that may develop.
- Understand printing inks, PMS color charts, and MSDS associated with ink.
- Ability to communicate well with others and provide basic direction to your assigned print packers with direction provided by the Print Lead Operator.
- Provide feedback to your Lead Operator regarding issues in your production, machine failures, or print process problems.
- Understand Good Manufacturing Practices and how it relates to printing.
- Keeps work area clean and orderly and help direct the packers to keep the areas clean and orderly.
- Assist in the proper print shop start up, and shut downs.
- Ready machines for shift change and provide good verbal and written communication to the on-coming shift regarding print department issues.
- Miscellaneous duties as directed by Lead Operator, and department supervisor
- Complete the personal qualification standards (PQS) for the Print Machine Operator in a timely manner as directed by the Print Supervisor.
Candidate Requirements:
- Must have minimum of eighth grade education.
- Must be able to read and write in English
- Completed the Assistant Operator Personal Qualification Standards.
- Normal dexterity required
- Must be able to take direction and work with minimal supervision
- Must be able to lift 30 lbs., 10 times per hour
- Must have acceptable attendance
