Job Title:

Thermoforming Assistant Operator  


Position Summary:

The Assistant Operator has the responsibility of ensuring corrugations, and the removal of such products after a completed production run, organizing resins, scrap movements, weighing and palletizing scrap or sheet, and extrusion resin controls is kept flowing and preventing contaminations. This position reports directly to the Shift Supervisor with training administered by Process Engineering.


Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities:

  • Must be able to operate forklift truck.
  • Must be aware of and follow all safety policies, including use of personal protective equipment, housekeeping, hazardous materials, etc.
  • Must be able to interface with all machine operators concerning the proper control of regrinds, virgin resin, and colorants. Ensure timely distribution of materials to the proper machine, and removals of resins for proper line clearance and storage.
  • Perform proper separations and controls of the various resins with a focus on contamination preventions.
  • Any paper work must be prepared timely and accurately and turned into the shift supervisor at the end of the shift.
  • Load product safely and efficiently
  • Operate forklift safely
  • Identify PET, PP, Styrene products in both Virgin and Regrind form.
  • Operate and understand vacuum loading systems.
  • Operate and understand resin blending system.
  • Operate and understand gay lord dump systems.
  • Operate and understand scales and how to document resin tags.
  • Insure regrinds are properly documented and insure that no loose regrind is on the pallet or spilling from the Gaylord before transporting.
  • Supply all necessary materials to all departments for continuous production
  • Remove regrinds from production areas as needed
  • Remove cardboard from production areas
  • Remove packaging materials from production to staging area after a changeover 
  • Must identify and report hazards.  Must eliminate any hazard within ability.
  • Operate Compactor, bailer, shrink wrap machine
  • Assist in coverage of breaks
  • Normal housekeeping duties, trash removal, moping
  • Miscellaneous duties as directed by department supervisor
  • Perform daily forklift inspection
  • Operate vacuum loading systems
  • Perform preventive maintenance on vacuum loading systems, and cleaning filters.
  • Operate the Gaylord lift bin and dumper.
  • Move boxes, bags to the production lines.
  • Receive shift instructions from the supervisor at the start of the shift.
  • Stage Regrinds From the warehouse location to the production line by following the Shift Instructions
  • Stage regrinds generated from the floor grinders, day bin cyclones to the warehouse location given in the shift instructions. Insure no loose regrind is on the pallet or spilling from the Gaylord before transporting.


Candidate Requirements:

  • Minimum of High School diploma or equivalent
  • Must have valid driver’s license and qualify for forklift license at WNA
  • Recommend prior one year experience driving a forklift, but can be waived with demonstrated proficiency.
  • Ability to read and write in English
  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision after the initial training period is completed. Typically training will be on the job training under the mentoring of the shift supervisor, process engineers, and other Material Handlers.
  • Normal Dexterity Required
  • Ability to lift a maximum of 75 lbs. Infrequently
  • Good attendance and punctuality required
  • Ability to work well in a team environment & motivate others within the team.
