Title:  Maintenance Technician I

Reports to: Lead Mechanic


FLSA: Non Exempt

Department: Maintenance


Primary Function: Perform preventive and repair maintenance work on production machinery and plant equipment.  Ensure that preventative maintenance and repairs are completed in strict accordance with all company policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure conformance with food safety and quality requirements.


Essential Functions:

  • Follow all Company policies
  • Responsible for maintaining food safety and quality.
  • Responsible for ensuring that HACCP procedures are followed, including checks, completed documentation.
  • Responsible for contacting responsible persons to ensure corrective action for any non-conformances
  • Responsible for performing and documenting preventive maintenance to ensure product quality and food safety. 
  • Responsible that proper product of lubricants, filters, air filters, and other materials used in maintenance are the proper material to ensure food quality and safety.
  • Responsible for following maintenance procedures to promote and preserve food safety and quality.
  • Responsible for ensuring proper clean up following any maintenance procedures, including any debris, grease, or chemicals.
  • Perform line reconciliation of all parts and tools, and including cleaning tools after each use to prevent contamination from debris, chemical, soil, or allergen contamination.
  • Responsible to ensure that only proper chemicals used and proper clean up procedures are followed, especially if any non-food grade chemicals are used as per proper procedure, in order to prevent any risk to food quality or safety.
  • Adhere to Attendance guidelines
  • Troubleshoot, repair and correct mechanical, electrical and process problems associated with production equipment to ensure proper operation.
  • Provide technical support for production.
  • Ability to assemble, disassemble and convert/upgrade production lines or support equipment as required for repairs, upgrades and/or installations.
  • Regularly inspect production lines and support equipment and schedule necessary preventive maintenance routines.
  • Maintain building and equipment.
  • Maintains a safe working environment; Reports unsafe conditions to management.
  • Other duties as assigned or requested; on call if needed. Ability to work overtime as required.
  • Assists in the troubleshooting and repair of mechanical and/or electrical breakdowns such as drive systems, pneumatics, PLC’s, heat controllers, electronic drives and inverters.

Education: High school diploma or GED preferred. Knowledge of a specialized field gained through specialized training equivalent to two years of college or trade school or equivalent experience of four to five years preferred. Associate degree in electrical or electro-mechanical technology desirable.


Experience:  Two to four years of experience in industrial electrical repair including drives, instrumentation, and process controls involving high-speed production equipment such as conveyors, packing equipment, and state of the art process controls.


Special Skills: Must possess basic mechanical and electrical skills. Must demonstrate ability to follow written and verbal instructions with little or no supervision. Ability to read mechanical and electrical and/or engineering blueprints, drawings and schematics. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical systems and equipment, including drives, motors, etc.


Essential Physical Requirements: Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs, crouch, kneel, or crawl. Frequently required to use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms and to lift and carry or move up to 35 pounds. Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
