Quality Assurance Supervisor


Job purpose

The Quality Assurance Supervisor provides leadership and support to the quality and production team to maintain a quality control plan and food safety system in pursuit of achieving all compliance standards, zero defects, and eliminating customer complaints.


Job Duties

  • Provide consultation, direction, and training to ensure quality system programs, processes, and procedures are implemented successfully and function as designed throughout the operation to ensure that quality and food safety objectives are met
  • Develop, deploy, and manage all quality assurance, quality control, sanitation/cleaning, and product/food defense programs, processes, and procedures
  • Participate in all BRCGS programs and initiatives as required and maintain the internal auditing program ensuring sustainable compliance to GMP
  • Document standards and specifications for processes, products, and test procedures as well as maintain a system of documentation for these areas
  • Employ problem-solving methodologies and tools including root cause analyses to investigate internal non-conformances and customer complaints and provide technical reports summarizing findings
  • Test and inspect products at various stages of the production process to ensure product quality
  • Supervise QA Technicians, Machine Operators, and Setup Technicians engaged in inspection and testing activities to ensure continuous control over materials, and products
  • Responsible for the retention of data, samples, and documents for use by self and other Company personnel during audits, inquiries, and recalls
  • Support the Plant/Production Manager & QA Manager to enforce new quality goals based on product performance and customer satisfaction
  • Perform calibration, maintenance, and testing on laboratory instruments as per plan
  • Participate in new product development processes including qualification and approval of new and modified products, equipment, and materials
  • Conduct and maintain a product hold, rework, and release program
  • Work according to procedures required by the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations and those within Company Policy.
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety standards
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Management


Job Requirements

  • College/University Diploma in a science-related discipline is preferred, combined with relevant quality assurance work experience
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in a quality role, preferably from the packaging industry.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a Supervisory / Managerial role is preferred.
  • Have a good understanding of meaningful metrics and their impact in manufacturing as well as understanding of how to create, implement, and manage leading and lagging quality KPIs
  • Knowledge in GMP, HACCP, and GFSI (BRCGS, SQF, FSSC, or IFS) standards for food contact packaging
  • Full proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of products with willingness and ability to learn new systems
  • Familiarity with packaging design software (Tops Pro, CAPE PACK, etc.) is an asset
  • Team player with multi-tasking abilities
  • Good verbal and non-verbal communication skills

  • Use or wear protective devices or clothing that the employer requires to be used or worn
  • Ability to lift up to 25lbs with frequent repetitions
  • Ability to drive to various company locations within Brampton
