Job Title: Human Resources Generalist

Reports to: Human Resources Manager

Department: Human Resources

Site: Brampton, Ontario

 

 

Job Purpose

The HR Generalist is responsible for providing administrative support to the HR department in managing the full employee life cycle activities with a primary focus on recruitment and staffing logistics, employee relations, and compliance & regulatory reporting as well as maintenance of HR records. The HR Generalist also assists the HR Manager with the implementation and maintenance of HR initiatives and programs as required.

 

Principal Job Duties

  • Assist with all internal and external HR related matters.
  • Participate in developing organizational guidelines and procedures.
  • Recommend strategies to motivate and retain employees.
  • Assist with the recruitment process by identifying candidates, interviewing, and conducting reference checks, and issuing employment contracts.
  • Coordinate employee development plans and performance management process.
  • Perform orientations and update records of new staff.
  • Update and maintain various HR information systems and prepare reports.
  • Produce and submit reports on general HR activity.
  • Assist the HR Manager in managing employee relations through attending meetings with the Union, responding to grievances,  maintaining relevant records,  and implementing and documenting disciplinary actions.
  • Participate in staff meetings and be visible and accessible to staff on the shop floor.
  • Participate in organizing and coordinating company social events.
  • Create and update organizational charts and job descriptions.

 

Job Requirements

  • Completion of a degree or diploma in Human Resources Management (or related).
  • Working towards Certified Human Resources Professional designation (CHRP) preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in a unionized manufacturing environment is an asset.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of relevant Employment Standards and Human Rights legislation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Meticulous attention-to-detail and ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, and professionally at all times.
  • Excellent English communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
