Position Summary:

The Slitter Operator is responsible to operate and control slitting and rewinding equipment in the production of material in accordance to the customer’s specification.

Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities:

  • Works safely to prevent on-the-job injuries by following all safety procedures and policies.
  • Set up and operate slitting and rewinding equipment to slit and rewind material according to specifications and is responsible for quality of material processed.
  • Adjusts knives on machine to regulate width of cut according to work order, following calibrated scale using tape measure.
  • Determine when knives need to be sharpened in order to maintain quality production.
  • Check material while machine is operating or shut down, taking samples and/or removing all quality defects from finished product as required. 
  • Locates job specifications on work order, such as part identification number, type and quantity of material required and cutting instructions.
  • Determine and set up knives to obtain desired results in accordance with specifications.
  • Select, cut and obtain cores from available sources and mount on equipment when necessary.
  • Use crane, electric hoist, or mobile equipment to support, load and unload slitter for efficient operation.  
  • Troubleshoots work-related problems by applying knowledge and experience to insure that production is not interrupted. 
  • Works in a safe manner to accomplish high quality production goals.
  • Calculate amount/number of specific product produced, and records information on skid.
  • Maintains an organized work area – 5S
  • Makes adjustments to knives.
  • Records information such as weight, scrap, linear feet, downtime and dates, etc. and report deficiencies. 
  • Properly marks, packs and identifies materials. 
  • Insure proper segregation and disposal of scrap.
  • Performs production adjustment and repair functions, such as lubricating parts, and fittings, tightening loose nuts and bolts, etc. 
  • Operates a programmable logic control consol.
  • Inserts flag indicating count break point for future processing.
  • Maintains visual contact with materials moving at a fast pace (avg. 2500 feet per minute) to identify out of spec materials or machine problems.
  • Monitors process of stacking finished products on skids using side lift adhering to safety goals, etc.
  • Performs job duties at a steady pace in an open production area enduring hot and cold conditions.
  • Removes poor quality materials and adjusts counter to insure units are correct.
  • Starts line after materials, cut specifications, etc. is determined by pressing run control and set speed controls.
  • Suggest improvements in work methods and procedures by speaking with supervisors/managers and utilization of the glass wall. 
  • Starts, stops, and regulates speed of slitting machine at end of each set.
  • Uses computer to create labels
  • Attends required training and meetings.
  • Confers with co-workers of other departments regarding production goals, process to be used and improvement for future runs. 
  • Attend annual GMP and HACCP Training Sessions.
  • Is aware of our food safety policy and programs
  • Upholds GMP and HACCP Principals

 

Candidate Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Desire to learn knew skills and work in a team environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office required (Excel, Word)
  • Lean/Continuous improvement oriented.
  • Minimum of 6 months manufacturing experience.
