Job Title:

Regional/Division EHS Manager

 

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Director of Health and Safety the Regional EHS Manager position is responsible for the development, implementation and sustainment of EHS programs to ensure the safety of all employees, visitors and contractors, protect the environment, and maintain compliance with all global and local regulations for our multiple domestic locations and multiple non-US sites. The Regional EHS Manager will actively engage and involve employees at all levels of the organization to drive a behavior-based safety culture characterized by accountability, commitment and teamwork.

 

Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities:

  • Advance initiatives which promote and sustain the safety, health, security, and welfare of all personnel.
  • Develop, deploy, and monitor all EHS programs, procedures, policies, and standards in a manner that ensures compliance to Federal, State, Local, Customer, and align with Corporate EHS requirements.
  • Provide focus, direction, leadership, and technical expertise to the various tactical teams (Plant Safety Teams; High Risk Teams - Ergonomic, Electrical Protection, Fall Protection, Mobile Equipment, Guarding, Storm/Waste Water Pollution Prevention, SPCC, Behavioral-Based Safety Training Team, and Manufacturing Hygiene Compliance Team.)
  • Develop, implement, and administer an internal EHS hazard/risk assessment and compliance auditing process designed to validate adherence to “World Class” standards and practices. 
  • Develop and administer a root cause analysis procedure/process designed to reveal and capture intellectual wisdom from all near miss and/or failure occurrences.
  • Communicate post incident / near miss findings (written/verbal: Incident Flash; Detailed Incident Investigation; and phone / net conferences). 
  • Develop, implement, and institutionalize a process to identify and eliminate high risk occurrences through review of historical incident data; leading indicators; plant, process, and equipment audits; job and activity observations; and highly specified JSA’s and SWI’s.
  • Stimulate and cultivate “a zero-incident mentality” throughout the organization.
  • Provide applicable management/agency notification, oversight, interface, and coaching and will be the point of contact (POC) for all inquiries, communication and interface with Federal, State, and Local agencies/authorities.
  • Proactively manage the administration of Workers Compensation benefits, case management, and cost containment measures.
  • Develop, implement, institutionalize, and manage facility Occupational Medical Clinic protocol and good case management practices.
  • Oversee and manage facility loss control activities.
  • Develop, administer, and institutionalize cost effective strategies to cause the facility to receive superior manufacturing third party food packaging audit scores; instill strategies which solidify hygienic practices into the daily activities of each operation of the facility; serve/act as the point of contact (POC) and interface with all customers regarding related matters.
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of all environmental reports (Air Emission Summary, TRI, Tier II, SWPPP, deviation reports, and waste disposal both hazardous and non-hazardous, etc).
  • Develop, report, and ensure the accuracy and timeliness of all related leading and lagging performance and success measures.
  • Assess and evaluate plant EHS connections and make recommendations to the Operations Manager regarding strategies to remedy training, skills, or performance deficiencies.
  • Partner with Operations Leadership at multiple levels to ensure alignment and support of EHS compliance and improvement activities.
  • Participate in the annual Capital planning process with Operations Leaders to ensure EHS projects are properly identified, prioritized, and funding requested.

Candidate Requirements:

  • BS Degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Chemical Engineering, Organizational Leadership or related field required; Master’s Degree preferred with emphasis on EHS.
  • Must have 5 or more years of experience implementing EHS standards, training and legal compliance.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading cultural change across an organization; experienced in leveraging multiple approaches to helping people adopt and implement controlled sustained change.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading continuous improvement activities and programs, leveraging processes, tools and best practices.
  • Excellent “soft skills” in communicating effectively with all levels of the organization;
  • Effective in influencing change across functional and demographic boundaries.
  • Related post-education training, certifications such as CIH, CSP, CPEA, or CHMM preferred. 
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. 
  • Budget/cost management; strategic planning and leadership experience required.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Skype for Business, etc)
  • Willing to travel extensively 75%+
  • Willingness to Relocate
