Logistics/Transportation Analyst


Position Summary:


As a member of the Novolex Supply Chain team supporting Global Logistics in the Charlotte office, this position is responsible for generating in-depth studies and analysis of the Novolex logistics network, identifying inefficiencies, improvement opportunities and potential cost/savings opportunities.  Responsible for building and deploying descriptive tools used to measure current and past performance as well as predictive tools used to help support on-going business decisions.  Additional major responsibilities to include analyzing freight cost metrics and drivers, merging with market intelligence data to identify mode, lane and/or geographic network related insights and improvement opportunities. The Analyst will work cross-functionally with logistics procurement, operations, S&OP and 3rd party suppliers to ensure business continuity and execution.

This position reports to the Sr. Director of Logistics and will ensure Novolex is providing procurement excellence and a competitive advantage in the marketplace.


Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze logistics processes and networks to identify key inefficiencies and cost drivers
  • Build and deploy decision support tools utilizing Tableau and/or other technologies
  • Develop methods and solutions to improve logistics performance; lead and/or partner with matched pairs within the organization to drive solutions to implementation
  • Discover options that improve cost performance, drive shipping efficiency and reduce lead-time
  • Evaluate and analyze freight market intelligence data, benchmarking performance and identifying key lanes, sites or geographic regions where rate-based performance is sub-standard
  • Create and track logistics KPIs and report on network logistics performance
  • Design and implement methods to gather and manage logistics related data
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Project Management: Partners and collaborates with cross-functional leaders to align objectives, set project KPIs, identify gaps and solutions and oversee overall project implementation.
  • Change Management: Ability to drive change and continuous improvement
  • Problem Solving: Identifies/anticipates potential problems, performs root cause analysis, evaluates robustness of corrective action plan and oversees plan implementation.
  • Communication:  Must be able to communicate in a clear, concise and persuasive manner


 Experience and Skills Required:

  • 5 to 7+ years supply chain / logistics experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred; 8+ years of relative experience required in lieu of degree
  • Knowledge of transportation pricing for TL, LTL, Ocean as well as key logistics costs drivers required
  • High level of proficiency in using MS Excel to perform data analytics, reporting and visualization
  • Proficiency in Tableau, SQL is preferred
  • High degree of experience in data mining/cleansing, analysis and visualization is required
  • Prior experience with ERPs and TMS software  
  • Prior experience with analytics platforms/tools
  • Strong project management and communication skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate and influence all levels of the organization
