Summary of Position

The Assistant Product Manager is responsible for both product planning and product marketing for assigned market segments. This includes managing the product throughout the product lifecycle, gathering and prioritizing product and customer requirements, defining the product vision, and working closely with R&D, marketing communications and supply chain to deliver winning products. It also includes working with sales to ensure revenue and customer satisfaction goals are met.

Reports To:  Vice President, Product Strategy and Development

 

Responsibilities

  • Product Management for assigned customer segments
    • Be an expert with respect to the company, its products, customers, sales channels and competition within assigned market segments.
    • Manage product development process including project management, product approval, and product set-up for products within assigned market segments.
    • Gather customer feedback, evaluate market trends and create a competitor analysis to form product requirements for industrial design team.
    • Develop/present a business case with cost targets and profitability expectations.
    • Develop the core positioning and messaging for the product in coordination with the Marketing department.
    • Drive collaboration with a cross-functional teams to develop and implement a launch plan that is timely, accurate, and compelling.
    • Recommend pricing strategy and meet revenue and profitability goals.
    • Provide direction for product line sales tools and collateral.
    • Propose and manage to a budget.
    • Assist sales with key accounts through training, development of presentation materials and, when appropriate, presenting products and strategy to customers.
    • Accomplishes all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested.
  • Quality Assurance – Thermoformed product lines
    • Full responsibility for quality assurance program.
    • Maintain manufacturing, inspection and quality specifications for internal and factory level quality control procedures.
  • Lead role in QC issues as they arise
        • Confirm defect and extent of issue; communicate with customer and sales staff on cause, corrective action and resolution.
        • Work with manufacturer on corrective actions and product credits or replacement.
        • Customer facing engagement for quality and occurrence resolution.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing partners to ensure and improve product quality and cost.
  • Execute and develop proficiency in test techniques and equipment for use in analysis of products.
  • Compliance – Thermoformed product manufacturing base
    • Manage all product testing and certifications to assure products are in compliance with FDA, ASTM and BPI (Biodegradable Products Institute) requirements.
    • Oversee vendor compliance including annual Food Safety and Social Compliance audits including corrective action follow up and improvement.
  • Vendor Set-up – Thermoformed product manufacturing base
    • Responsible for bringing new vendors on-line upon approval. 
    • Function as Project Manager on these products.
    • Ensure specs and approved samples are in place.
    • Review and summarize costing of potential new suppliers. 

 

Qualifications:  Experience, Competencies and Education

  • Demonstrated success managing all stages of the product lifecycle.
  • Self-starter with a proven ability to assemble action plans independently and execute them within a cross functional environment.
  • Demonstrated success leading and working on cross functional teams.
  • Strategic thinker, ability to plan/execute strategy and make decisions without data.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including presentation skills and the ability to effectively communicate with management, and internal and external customers.
  • Good understanding of financial analysis and statements.
  • Analytical skills with knowledge of how to forecast sales and inventory of new products.
  • Experience with products sold into multi-step distribution channels and national accounts (foodservice a plus).
  • Experience with products sold into retail distribution channels or grocery distribution channels.
  • Advanced skills using Microsoft Office, emphasis on Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated success in engaging effectively and persuasively at all levels of the organization, from staff to senior management.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy with a commitment to excellence.
  • Ability to think proactively, take risks, propose change, and solve problems creatively.
  • Strong inclination towards sustainability in business and personal environments.
  • 2+ years of experience in product marketing, category management, quality assurance, new product development, product engineering, or OEM relationships.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or Science based field; MBA a plus.
  • Foreign Language – fluent Mandarin a plus.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as injection molding and thermoforming, a plus. 
  • Experience managing 3rd party materials labs and auditors, a plus.

Work Environment

This is a full- time, exempt position in an office environment. Some travel will be required.

 

Compensation & Benefits

Eco-Products offers a competitive salary (range is $80,000- $105,000 based on level of experience and education) and generous benefits package.
