Processing Department Manager


Position Summary:

While working in a safe, effective manner, keeping quality in mind at all times, working in a cooperative team environment to supervise all functions related to manufacturing process.  Ensure that all work procedures and practices are consistently upheld to ensure production, quality and food safety.


Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities:

  • Must be able to motivate, train, and lead.  Be able to be firm, friendly, and fair at all times.
  • Make decisions utilizing subordinates’ input while performing analytical, logical, objective problem solving techniques.
  • Must ensure that all budgeted goals are being meet on a daily basis.
  • Safety:
    • Investigate accidents and complete accident reports.
    • Investigate safety incidents and close calls and complete accident reports.
    • Review operator’s equipment to ensure it is safe to use.
    • Take action with your manager on shift to correct immediate concerns.
    • Ensure that your department supervisor write or review subordinates safety MWO (Maintenance Work Orders)
    • Enforce all plant safety rules.
  • Quality:
    • Ensure that quality and food safety procedures have been reviewed, signed off, and are understood by all personnel.
    • Audit the procedures to verify that crews are following procedures.
    • Oversee the quality and food safety complaints for your area and put corrective actions in place.
    • All products approved for shipment meet customer’s quality expectations.
    • Ensure that all testing is done correctly and that paperwork documenting this is complete and accurate.
    • Enforce all plant rules pertaining to SQF standards.
    • Ensure that all rejected material is properly segregated, and hold tickets and reports are completed.
    • Lead a Quality improvement team. 
  • Production:
    • Ensure that the budget production levels are being met throughout your department.
    • Put together corrective action plans for areas that need improvment
    • Ensure proper levels on inventory of all material in and out of your area.
    • Ensure work order system is followed.
    • Ensure that all shift supervisors’ reports are filled out in a timely manner.
    • Understand operating standards and take action to maintain equipment at these levels.
    • Involved in the budgeting process of your department
  • Personnel:
    • Perform probationary employee review.
    • Coordinate Managers activities, redistributing personnel as required maximizing productivity.
    • Administer disciplinary action.
    • Enforce plant rules.
    • Counsel, coach, motivate, and train employees to perform at manufacturing expectations and maintain positive labor relations.
    • Be aware of and maintain acceptable standards as determined by his/her supervisor of according to the house keeping policy.
    • Ensure that all cleaning and HACCP rules are followed at all times.
  • Maintenance Interface:
    • Work with maintenance Supervisor on scheduling preventative maintenance program that is required to maintain productivity.
    • Write MWO’s for all maintenance concerns.
  • Follows all Company rules and guidelines.
  • Avoid unsafe practices or carelessness. Follow all Company safety rules and policies. Follow all safety rule specific to each machine and/or department.
  • Cooperate with fellow employees.
  • Is waste conscious of efforts and materials at all times.
  • Attempts to achieve quality product.


Candidate Requirements:

  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum three (3) years experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Capable of communicating with all levels of internal and external customers.
  • Must be able to think on your feet, work with limited supervision and make sound decisions.
  • Solid knowledge of company policies and the ability to hold people accountable.
  • Good organization, writing and verbal skills.
  • Good motivational skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects and work the necessary times to accomplish goals.
  • Must be a team player with a “can do” attitude.
  • Should possess basic mechanical skills.
  • Capable of working in hot environment and in areas where inks and lubricants are used.
  • Must be capable of standing for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to frequently lift and carry 25 lbs. and occasionally up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have basic troubleshooting abilities.
  • Must have basic computer (Excel & Word) and math skills.
  • Must be able to read Basic English.
  • Regularly required to stand, sit, move about facility, climb stairs, bend, twist, kneel, crouch or crawl, use hands and fingers to touch, handle, or feel objects, tools and controls, grasp, push, pull, reach with hands and arms, lift above shoulder level. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.


Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee occasionally is exposed to fumes or other airborne particles and vibration.

Noise levels in the work environment usually in the range of 85 decibels.

Employee will be subject to mandatory testing for drugs and/or alcohol on a random, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, return-to-duty, and follow-up basis.
